As a mummy who is awaiting an and referral, this breaks my heart for what it might be like for the future for my wee boy. What were those parents thinking just not turning up like that, they should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves I’m glad you had a nice party. A heartwarming response from the All I need today is a little bit of Tigers and a whole lot of Jesus shirt. As a retired teacher of many autistic children and teenagers, it is great now that even more people have contacted your family. I defy anyone to read that and not to weep. Bless all those wonderful people who responded, and as to the parents who didn’t bring their kids and didn’t even have the courtesy to decline the invitation – shame on you. I hope no-one ever treats your children with that kind of cruelty.

I too have a little girl with autism and I can feel for Remi and her emotions as she said where are my friends. Remi understood this wasn’t right that no friends turned up to which I’m proud of her recognition of the situation. What a wonderful story. I hope the parent of the All I need today is a little bit of Tigers and a whole lot of Jesus shirt feels thoroughly ashamed of themselves. There’s no excuse for not getting in touch. Well done to those who attended. So rude of parents not to respond to an invitation. Anytime my kids have been invited to a party first thing I do is respond. But to respond and not turn up is just so rude. Glad the wee girl’s day ended up a great day for her and by reading the article she has hopefully got some new friends.

Thank you to the people that turned up for the party. I know how heartbreaking it is to have had a daughter with autism who had literally no friends throughout her school life and still doesn’t have anybody close as a young adult. There seems to be so much more autism awareness out there now, but a huge chunk of society doesn’t seem to behave any differently. Please, make an effort to people. Don’t be afraid of people with autism. Taking just a little time and patience, you can quickly learn how to talk and interact with them comfortably.
